Although there are no available statistics in South Africa specifically on slip and fall accidents, their incidences must bear some relation to the reported information regarding such accidents from the USA and the UK. The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reports that slips and falls account for 15% of all accidental deaths, second only to motor vehicle accidents, and slip injury costs exceed US $100- billion each year.
